48 Years (of 'Station to Station')

In 2005-ish I was with a friend looking in the pile of CDs for sale at our local library - they used to sell off old stock every once in a while.

Alighting on a slightly beat up copy of this album, I decided to take a gamble.. probably after seeking approval of the person I was with.

I never looked back. Sometimes an album is so alien - and as as 15 year old who mainly listened to Bowie's 'Starman' and 'Moonage Daydream', the 'Station to Station' album really opened my eyes to how much more Bowie there was.

In the following years, I've grown around albums like this - at first selectively playing a few tracks and revelling in the cocaine-fueled opening track or patiently working out the guitar riff from 'Stay' loud enough for our neighbours to hear.. spool forward to these days when I wonder if I even prefer the Nina Simone version of 'Wild is The Wind'... At 16 listening to 'Wild Is The Wind', I wouldn't have even known who Nina Simone was.

Such is the power of Bowie, the magpie, to leave a little piece of shiny gold for you to find and explore. But that's another ramble...

Today marks the 48th anniversary of this album. Wow, how long the train has travelled!
