202308 - Floating in Space (as usual)

Hey Comets!

A pretty quick update from me this time. Read on to hear about Temporal Comet’s recent single release, as well as news about an upcoming live concert in UK, and some great new music I have discovered recently, while floating through various black holes.

Anticipation 2023

Well, it’s been a long journey with this one…

Originally released in 2019, ‘Anticipation’ and its Dub Remix, the track unfortunately got burned up upon re-entry to Earth, due to a technical glitch at Ground Control.

The original distributor, Universal Music’s ‘Spinnup’ service, closed down, removing millions of songs by unsigned artists. It was a huge asteroid hitting my little indie spacecraft, and, along with a few other factors (see May’s blog post for more info), I decided to take a little break and float calmly in deep space for a bit.

Well, now I’m back, ‘Anticipation’ has returned too! And better than ever, I believe. Thanks to my friends on social media, the single has helped me to meet more new Comets across the globe, send some prizes to places like Scotland and Romania), and even find a name for the character which digital artist ‘Fllunt’ created for me back in 2019.

Meet ‘Izar’, who is still laying back in the void of space.

I’m working on a little music video now - in the meantime, there’s already a lyric video you can watch here.
I’d love to know what you think of the song! Please feel free to comment below, or find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Threads, etc

LIVE CONCERT - October 2023

It looks like my busy period is going to be the end of the Summer/ beginning of Autumn again - as well as releasing more music in the next months, I’ll also be playing a live show with a full-band incarnation of Temporal Comet!

Celebrating Mark Astronaut, as we did in 2022, Club 85 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire will be playing host once again to the ‘You’re All Weird’ fest.

Playing alongside The Astronauts (songbook), Zounds, Hagar the Womb, and Billy Lunn from WGC rockers the Subways, I’ll be on stage around 3pm. Please come down and expand your musical mind - the songs Mark wrote as ‘The Astronauts’ and ‘The Otters’ are powerful, acid-punk powerhouses which deserve a listen. A link to some of his back catalogue appears below...

Temporal sounds

OK, it’s not all new music to me, but I hope some of the following will be new to you, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I am doing!

Here’s my playlist, ‘Temporal Sounds’, where I curate a selection of new discoveries and old favourites. It gives you a flavour of what I normally listen to. Like licking inside my ear with a tongue trained to distinguish different musical vittels.

As I type, I’m currently listening to one of my favourite bands, Genesis, from their final album with Peter Gabriel - ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’. This has always been one of my fave Genesis albums. It’s impenetrable prog but with a more American, theatrical feel.

I also discovered this awesome Tito Puente song after reading a MOJO interview with producer Rick Rubin (from Mojo 352 - what an interesting guy!). It’s called ‘Rico Vacilón - click for a link to the song on Spotify :)

As mentioned before, here’s a taster of Welwyn Garden City semi-legends The Astronauts. This song is called ‘One Wave.

Lastly, a friend (who basically knows about all the music made after 1950) recommended this experimental artists called Oneohtrix Point Never. I don’t even know how to say that, but here’s one of their songs which i particularly enjoyed. It’s called ‘Submersible’. Thanks Joe!

As always, I’d love to hear what you think! Send me a message/ comment/ intergalactic fax (although those are a bit slow if you’re messaging from further away than Venus.)
